Merrill Black, L.C.S.W. is a cognitive behavior therapist who has been treating patients since 1987. She is a licensed clinical social worker who received her Masters at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work in 1987. Merrill also received additional cognitive behavioral training at the Institute for Behavior Therapy in New York City from 1989-1990. She has also received training for hypnosis at the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

Merrill has been in private practice for several years and treats a diverse population of children, teens, and adults. She currently practices at: The Temperance Center, in Eastchester, NY. Among her specialties are Anxiety Disorders, such as Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Phobias and Fears, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Trichotillomania.

Merrill uses a variety of modalities when working with patients, such as Reiki, Hypnosis, Mindfulness, Exposure Therapy, Systematic Desensitization, Cognitive Restructuring, Imagery and Visualizations, and Relaxation Techniques/Relaxation Training.

Merrill received her Reiki training in the Usui tradition. She has been a Reiki Master since 2002, and incorporates this energy work into her treatment of others. Reiki is a gentle healing experience given by the practitioner to the client. Reiki works with the energy system of a person in order to restore balance Teaching patients strategies to manage stress and improve emotional well being is one of the goals when they are receiving Reiki.

Hypnosis is also a modality that Merrill uses with her clients to help them deal with their Panic and Anxiety, Phobias and Fears, their Trichotillomania, and at times an adjunct to Reiki to help deepen their relaxation; and connection to themselves.

Merrill’s professional affiliations include the TLC Foundation For Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors, the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and the National Academy of Social Workers.

She has provided numerous workshops and training all over the United States through a variety of organizations and venues; offering her knowledge and treatment of Trichotillomania as well as other Anxiety Disorders, Stress Management, Relaxation, Hypnosis, and Reiki.
